We left Palmer and drove to Valdez. This was one of the most beautiful drives we have had and it had many views of glaciers, mountains and lots of beautiful fall foliage. It rained for most of our stay in Valdez but we did have a couple glimpses of the sun. Luckily we ran into our friends Smitty and Sharon and got to hang out.
While in Valdez we went Sea Kayaking to Shoop glacier and took a hike to the Mendenhall glacier. This was a city that was not on our list initially but we are sure glad our friend Smitty insisted we go.

Beautiful view looking down on a glacier on the drive to Valdez
These “U” valleys are created by glacial activities during the last ice age
The foliage is changing colors for fall
View of the Sawtooth mountain range
One of the many times glaciers were visible from the road.
We hiked up to the terminus of Worthington glacier. Notice I made Daddy carry my “baggage”.
Although this looks like black and white the lighting was just dull due to overcast conditions. Notice the waterfall caused by the glacier melting.
Our ravishing good looks far outweigh the gorgeous backdrop, right?????
Showing off our best assets….
I should be in commercials…….
Meeting up with our friends Smitty and Sherry at their campsite. Great view of the mountains in the background.
Daddy, as always, acting like a juvenile getting ready for sea kayaking.
There were at least 10 waterfalls on this mountain face, but they didn’t all show up in the photo.
We kayaked up to the Shoop glacier.
This river is all from the glacier melting.
Mommy in the glacier
This ice is well over 100 years old
My parents kayaking, of course they didn’t bring me.
On our way back we saw a whale skeleton on the beach.
We had to kayak around ice in the water.
View of our site in Valdez with waterfall visible in the background.
